Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I’m looking for a job as a developer, and I was wondering if contributing to the repo on GitHub would increase my chances of getting hired at Grafana. If anyone who works at Grafana used to be a contributor, I’d love to ask you some questions!
Hi @omihridesh,
Welcome to the community support forums !!
We are excited that you joined our OSS community. Please read about some of the FAQs in the community
Contributing to any Open-Soruce project is vital to keep it alive. The community helps in terms of finding bugs, feature requests, testing the pre-released version and helping out users with questions on the forums or GitHub.
This helps the contributor to know how the process works and learns more about the product, and its lifecycle. Also, get a chance to meet other people with similar interests.
It also helps to improve individual skills and build a public portfolio (e.g. GitHub).
Coming to the original question, If anyone is interested in working at Grafana Labs, then please check out our Careers page and apply to a job post that matches best. It is totally fine to mention the contributions made for Grafana so that the folks can view them.
There is a definite process where each applicant goes to allow fairness so for e.g. if someone has contributed and stands better than the rest of the applicants, then there is a good chance to get shortlisted (other factors may also apply but currently talking in the context of contribution).
But, if saying that only contributions will help then the chances are less.
I hope answers well and was helpful
