Is there a way to designate which columns show up in the tooltip box when you hover over a point?
Welcome @kevin43d4
The following info from you will help us help you
version of grafana
os running in: windows, linux
dada source type: sql, mysql, elastic search
visualization type: bar chart, pie chart
Grafana: v8.5.2
linux: ubuntu 20
data source: influxdb 2.0
visualization type: line graph
do you mean time series visualization or are you speaking of another one?
yes it is a time series set of data. When you float your cursor over a point it appears to show those tags coming from the database but not all. It is not clear to me what criteria it uses for showing tag data associated with a point and how much if any can be customized
Have you achieved any results on this.
I am also looking for a similar solution.
I am showing property data for multiple devices in a timeseries chart and the legend shows the device names.
However, when the tooltip appears on hovering, I am trying to show the device description, instead of the device name.
Hi @kevin43d4,
Well, there is a defined setting for the tooltip in Grafana.
If you go to a Dashboard → click the gear icon on top and then go to settings. At the bottom, you will see the defined tooltip settings as either Shared Crosshair or Shared Tooltip.
If you are looking for something else then please explain your case in a bit more detail.
Thanks
Hello @usman.ahmad,
do you mind explaining the tooltip concepts “Shared crosshair” and “Shared Tooltip”?
I am not able to find an explanation.
Hello @hafeja,
Shared crosshair shows the line matching the same time on all dashboards.
While, Shared Tooltip shows the tooltip value on all panels at the same time.
I will for e.g. use Shared Tooltip if I have more than 2 panels where the visualization are different but related to one another as it helps to identify the problems when viewing it.
I hope this helps.
Hey @kevin43d4
did you manage to solve this Issue?
Best regards
I would also like to customize the tooltip data, with metadata / strings.
This is also an critical requirement for me. I also wanted to show some additional string data in tooltip on hover. If option is not there, can you at least let us know what is the work around for this ?
Hi did you find a workaround for this?
I have a timeseries graph with a custom column in the data and want to show that column text in the tooltip because without it its hard to know what sensor the data is coming from…
