Direct link rendered image using external_image_storage

Hi!

I recently setup the external_image_storage feature using GCS and I have it working with the alerting feature, however I was also expecting it to allow the sharing of panels as images via the “Direct link rendered image” option from the Share menu of a panel.

Unfortunately when I try that feature, I still get the same image URL I got before, which points directly to the Grafana instance.

This is mostly intended for sharing image snapshots of a panel with people in Slack, and having the image unfurling work, because of course the default image URL is behind auth.

Is this possible at all?

Does anyone know an answer to this question at all, even a “no it’s not supported” would help so I know not to pursue it.
