Welcome to the community support forums !!
There are definitely a ton of changes occurring between ver. 6. x till 9. x and YES many things will break or might not be available as they used to be before.
But, many improvements had been made as well. However, it is not possible to name each and everything but you can read the release notes (
Since there are not all the release notes on the website for ver 6. x but are available as checked on GitHub while comparing seems to have more than 5000+ commits so if you want to see them view this link.
For the next part of your question i.e. to upgrade from v.6 to v.9, will suggest following this community post as users provided very helpful tips as how they upgraded their server in different environments and how to backup the data.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for the information.
I want to know one more thing. We are using Influxdb 1.7.6 as datasource for our current Grafana version 6.1.
So, Can we use the same Influxdb version for Grafana 9.1 as well? Will it Support?
If not, Please suggest the InfluxDB version for Grafana 9.1
Yes, that should work as I test myself about a month ago that InfluxDB ver 1.x worked well on a new Grafana 9.0.x
Since Grafana only needs to accept it as Datasource so no changes there.
However, what is important to note is that there is a newer version of InlfuxDB v.2.x and some users recently reported that their previous data is not showing up in Grafana (even though no issues in the Datasource connection part).
The reason is that InfluxDB v2 it uses buckets to store data instead of relying on a database e.g. telegraf, default etc.
I would recommend the following
- Spin up a new instance of latest grafana
- Copy grafana.db and defaults.ini from 6.1 to this new grafana
- Restart the new one and see what happens
You will still have the 6.2 version intact if upgrade fails
