Scenodary development Grafana

Hi,

Can I secondary develop Grafana and sell it as a company product? I want modify the software name, logo and add some new features. Can I do this? For this I did the following:

  1. I have copy a license into software.
  2. I create notice file and wrote "This software is base on Grafana:Copyright 2014-2018 Grafana labs ".

I don`t know much about Apache License2.0.Anything else to pay attention to? Please tell me.

Hi,

Can I secondary develop Grafana and sell it as a company product?

Yes.

I want modify the software name, logo and add some new features. Can I do
this?

Yes.

For this I did the following:

  1. I have copy a license into software.

Do you mean that you have added a new licence to the Grafana software?

If so, which licence have you used (and please don’t say “one we’ve made up
ourselves” - that is almost always a bad idea - use an existing known and
tested licence instead)?

  1. I create notice file and wrote "This software is base on Grafana:Copyright
    2014-2018 Grafana labs ".

Please ensure that the English is correct (“based”, not “base”), and also
ensure that you state that Grafana is licensed under the Apache Licence 2.0.

Specifically, please see section 4 of the Apache Licence.

I don`t know much about Apache License2.0.

I strongly recommend that you, or someone who is comfortable with licence
language, reads and understands https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0 to
make sure that what you do and the way you do it are compliant with the
licence under which Grafana is distributed.

Anything else to pay attention to?

Since you are starting from open source software which is provided to you at
no cost, it would be nice if you gave back to the community the modifications
and improvements you intend to make.

Grafana is distributed under a licence which does not require you to do
this, but it seems only polite and proper to me that if you take someone
else’s code and plan to modify it and add to it, you give your efforts back to
everyone in exchange for the value of what you’ve been given to start with.

However, https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0 explains your legal
obligations should you choose to take the code and profit from other people’s
work.

Regards,

Antony.

The license is Grafana license. And can I add constraints that cannot be used by people other than customers. If it can’t, I won’t add.

Yes, it’s based, not base. I will add modification instructions to the modified file.

I modified the layout of the webpage and customized some functions. Some functions even violate the Grafana principle. So I did not submit these changes.

Thank you very munch.

I strongly recommend that you, or someone who is comfortable with licence
language, reads and understands https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0 to
make sure that what you do and the way you do it are compliant with the
licence under which Grafana is distributed.

Antony.
